San Felipe de Neri
Catholic Church Rectory
Completed: 1996
Cost: $205,000

Built in 1890, the roof on the rectory of the landmark church in Albuquerque's Old Town was in critical need of stabilization resulting from damage caused by the weight of the two layers of asphalt shingles installed over rafters originally designed to support a much lighter tin roof. Kells + Craig worked with the church's finance and building committees to restore the roof to its original appearance, including reconstruction of the original widow's walk and chimneys. The project was honored by the Albuquerque Conservation Association with the Bainbridge Bunting Award, and was the recipient of a State of New Mexico Heritage Preservation Award.
